Initiated in the United Kingdom, Scleroderma Awareness Month seeks to unite organizations from around the world to increase awareness of this rare autoimmune condition. Scleroderma is a rare, chronic disease of the immune system, blood vessels and connective tissue. Two and a half million people worldwide have scleroderma, with over 12,000 in the United Kingdom. It is an autoimmune condition, meaning the immune system becomes overactive and attacks healthy tissue in the body.
